The Leading Professor, Doctor-Researcher, in charge of the department of human retrovirus of USA National Institute of Cancer, Giorgos Pavlakis has visited the Children’s Oncology Unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA” on Monday November 8th 2021.
He was welcomed by the President of the Association “ELPIDA- Association of Friends of Children with cancer”, Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis and the Administrator of the Children’s Hospital “H Aghia Sofia” and “P.&A. Kyriakou”, Mr. Manolis Papasavvas, in the presence as well of the Professor of the Medical School of the Athens University and member of “ELPIDA” Board of Directors, Mrs. Dora Dimopoulou and the Pediatrician Hematologist-Oncologist, Director of NHS and of the Unit of transplant of bone marrow to the children’s Oncologic Unit, Dr. Evgenios Gousetis.
Mrs. Vardinoyannis has emphasized at the reception of Mr. Pavlakis that: “Your support is exceptionally honorable for us and it really touches me because we have a high estimation of your work through which you have devoted your life to the medical science. Your long-lasting researches to America on new treatments of immunotherapy and vaccines for cancer and AIDS consist an utmost offer to the humanity. Your course makes me feel very proud because you’re a Greek originating from Crete, you have studied to the Medical School of the Athens University and you have an excellent career abroad to such important sectors which are giving a second chance of life to millions of people throughout the world. Having people like you at our side is a huge support to our fight.
Mr. Papasavvas has also thanked Mr. Pavlakis for his visit to the oncologic unit and has explained to him in details the way of operation and the Unit’s work.
In a gesture of respect and honor, Mrs. Vardinoyannis has awarded to Professor Pavlakis the memorial plaque of ELPIDA for his work and offer to the medical research and science”.
“The place in which we are today is innovative. Whatever to say is very poor for the efforts you pay here every day. The words “Peace” and “hope” which you are using declare everything. Whatever thank you that we can say to you there is not a greatest thank you than that of the hugs of children! We thank you for keeping the hope alive! Professor Pavlakis said with emotion.
Right after that, he placed the star with his name to the “Wall of Stars of ELPIDA” and he made a tour to the oncologic unit showing a special interest to the “Center of Genetic and Cellular Treatment” which is the most modern for the treatment of cancer as he characteristically said.
