The men and women of the Fire Brigade Corpus and the Special Unit of Disasters Response (E.M.A.K) have organized a magic Christmas event to the external yard of Unit on Wednesday December 15th 2021 offering smiles of joy, optimism and hope to the children of the Oncology unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA”.
The Commander of the Fire Brigade Corpus, Major Fire General, Stefanos Kolokouris and the executives of the Fire Brigade Corpus and E.M.A.K in cooperation, for a third continuous year with the Association “ELPIDA-Association of Friends of Children with cancer” and the President, Marianna V. Vardinoyannis have brought the Christmas spirit to the unit. There were present to this event, the Minister of health, Mr. Thanos Plevris, the Dean of the Greek Parliament and member of it, Vasileios-Nikolaos Ypsilantis and the Administrator of the Children’s’ Hospital “H Aghia Sofia” and “P.&A. Kyriakou”, Mr. Manolis Papasavvas.
The magic scenery has been set early in the afternoon of Wednesday when “the Flying Fire-men” have started coming down from the roof of the building with ropes offering balloons and presents to the children who were waiting with impatience at the windows of their rooms.
At the same time and from the Fire-Brigade scale which had been set to the external year of the Unit, Santa Claus came down to the great enthusiasm of the children and adults and being assisted from the goblins has offered balloons and presents to the children who were to the external yard.
The Christmas melodies from the Band of the Fire Brigade Corpus have created a unique Christmas atmosphere warming the hearts of the little patients who were under treatment to the Children’s Oncology Unit.
The President of the Association “ELPIDA-Association of Friends of Children with cancer” Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis thanked the Fire-Brigade Corpus for its nice initiative. “Thank you very much for what you are doing every year for our children. The pleasure and hope you offer to them are the most precious gifts. My thanks from the depths of my heart are for each one of the Fire men and women for their offer every day to our society. I wish to all of you Happy Holidays with health and love!”
The Commander of the Fire Brigade Corpus, Major Fire General, Stefanos Kolokouris has offered to Mrs. Mariana V. Vardinoyannis as a memorial present, a handmade album of the Fire-Brigade Corpus saying that: “It is a great pleasure for us to be near the children because the real hope arises through them and their families. We have today been surrounded with their happiness. But for us the greatest pleasure will be the time when every child will leave from the Oncologic Unit to return healthy to his home. I wish from the depths of my heart, health, love and happy holidays!”.
This specific Christmas event is taking place for the third time to the external year of the Children’s’ Oncology Unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA” and the “Flying Fire-men” are members of the Mountaineering Rescue and Search team of 1st E.M.A.K.
