With an objective of cultivating international solidarity and cooperation between states for addressing the pandemic, UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador, Mrs Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, is making a series of contacts with important personalities and leaders from across the world.
In this context, on Thursday, 21 May 2020, Mrs Vardinoyannis had a teleconference with the Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and former President of Latvia, Dr. Vaira Vike Freiberga, with whom she has a close cooperation, since Mrs Vardinoyannis is a founding member of the International Organisationand a member of the Board of Trustees.
The Secretary General of the Center, Mr Rovshan Muradov also took part in the teleconference.
It is worth noting that the NGIC consists of state leaders and prominent personalities from across the world, whereas its operation is supported by the President of Azerbaijan, Mr Ilham Aliyev and the First Lady and Vice-president, Mrs Mehriban Aliyeva.
During the pandemic, the International Center has taken important actions, by launching initiatives and calls aiming to protect vulnerable social groups and protect human rights during this difficult period.
In fact, the NGIC has demonstrated its significant support for Greece, by sending masks and medical supplies to the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA” Children’s Oncology Hospital, whereas on her part, Mrs Vardinoyannis has sent books and educational materials for the children of Azerbaijan.
The two ladies focused on the need for concerted international initiatives and the creation of a bridge of solidarity during this critical for humanity period.
