The ORAMA ELPIDAS Association took part in the major sporting event of the Authentic Marathon of Athens for the third year running, on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 November 2019.
ORAMA ELPIDAS took part in the 37th Authentic Marathon of Athens with a team of 75 runners, consisting of bone marrow donors, doctors of the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis – ELPIDA Children’s Oncology Unit, members of the Board and staff of the Associations, members of the ELPIDA Youth Committee and staff of the ELPIDA Guest House, including an informational stand for the registration of new donors.
The runners of our Association ran the 5 km, 10 km and 42 km races, sending a strong message of hope, while the ORAMA stand was visited by hundreds of runners interested in bone marrow donation and become donors themselves.
More than 110 new donors were registered during the Authentic Marathon.
For yet another year, Sakis Rouvas, messenger for ELPIDA, was there to support us by visiting our stand to join forces with us.
It is worth noting that the ORAMA ELPIDAS Association is yet another link in the chain of contribution by the ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with Cancer. At the initiative of its President, Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, ORAMA ELPIDAS has established the Volunteer Bone Marrow Transplant Bank aiming to raise public awareness of the voluntary donation of bone marrow and increase the number of bone marrow donors in our country, so that all our fellow citizens who need a transplant can find a compatible donor.
Since its foundation in 2014, and to this day, the Association has registered more than 100,000 new bone marrow volunteer donors, 68 of whom have been found compatible to date, giving hope to 68 of our fellow human beings.
