A magic Christmas event with the original Santa Claus from Rovaniemi of Finland and the lightening of the most shinning and optimistic Christmas tree, the Tree of Wishes, has taken place to the Children’s Oncology Unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA” on Friday, December 10th 2021.
The President of the Association “ELPIDA- Association of Friends of Children with cancer”, Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis has welcomed together with the little patients and the Administrator of the Children’s Hospitals “H Aghia Sofia” and “P.&A. Kyriakou”, Mr. Manolis Papasavvas at the courtyard of the Oncologic Unit, the Santa Claus who has arrived from the faraway Rovaniemi being accompanied from Mrs. Anna Gustafson, the wife of the Ambassador of Finland to our country.
The artificial snow which was falling to the Oncologic Unit and the Christmas melodies of the Athens Municipality band re-echoed from the one side to the other side of the Oncologic Unit creating a unique Christmas atmosphere of joy and optimism.
The faces of the little patients who were present to the courtyard of the Hospital and those who were also watching from the windows of their rooms were lightened with the most warm smiles for the beautiful Christmas surprise!.
The “Tree of Wishes” which had been set to the external part of Unit had been filling up with wishes for “health” and “love” that give strength to the children that are under treatment these days and to their families. Mrs. Vardinoyannis has set, as she is doing every year, the first decorative ornament.
“I wish to all our children to be shortly well and return strong and healthy to their houses. From the depths of my heart I wish Happy Holidays to all of you with health and love”, Mrs. Marianna Vardinoyannis said as she was putting the first decorative ornament on the Tree of Wishes.
The event reached to its top when the Santa Claus with his ice-fellow Frodi, the hero of Christmas and Baltazar Magos have given numberless presents to the children.
The visit of the original Santa Claus was made into the frame of a series of celebrations and actions which have been scheduled by the Social Service of the Association “ELPIDA” to the Children’s Oncologic Unit in view of Christmas time so that, the children under treatment these days to be able to enjoy the magic of Christmas time.
As it is done every year and this year as well the original Santa Claus from Rovaniemi came to Greece invited from Santa Claus Kingdom under the auspice of the Embassy of Finland. We thank the Company “Luna Park Aidonakia S.A.”, the Greek company of table toys, Desyllas Games” and Mr. Anastasis Desylla for the kind offer of presents.
