The Christmas miracle has become a reality for the children of the Oncologic Unit of Children “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA” thanks to the Fire Brigade which, for one more year has been united with the Association “ELPIDA – Association of Friends of Children with cancer” organizing a magic event at the Unit’s Courtyard on Thursday, December 12th 2024.
The rescuers’ of 1st Special Disaster Response Unit (EMAK) were dressed up as flying Santa Clauses and came down from the building’ s roof offering gifts to the little patients who were impatiently waiting them at the windows and balconies of their rooms.
At the same time from the Fire Brigade staircase that, had been set at the center of the courtyard of the Unit, Santa Claus came down getting excited the young and adults and offered gifts to the children at the courtyard.
The Christmas melodies of the Band of Fire Brigade had created a unique Christmas atmosphere warming the children’s hearts who were hospitalized these days at the Oncologic Unit of Children.
The President of the Association “ELPIDA”, Mrs. Christianna V. Vardinoyannis, being touched, has thanked the Chief of the Fire Brigade Corps, Lieutenant General, Theodoros Vagias, the rescuers of 1st EMAK and the Band of Fire Brigade Corps for their significant initiative who offered smiles of joy, optimism and hope to ELPIDA children these festive days: “I thank you for everything you done every year for our children. The joy and hope that you offer are the most precious gifts. I thank from the depth of my heart each one of you for all those that you offer on daily basis to our society. I wish you happy holidays with health and love for all of you!”
The Chief of Fire Brigade Corps has congratulated Mrs. Vardinoyannis for the significant work of the Association and he assured her that, the Fire Brigade shall always be at the side of “ELPIDA” and its children: “It is a special honor for the Fire Brigade to be here at the premises of “ELPIDA”. We feel the need to be near to you in every opportunity. Your fight and day to day effort inspire us, guide us and help us to re-estimate the value of those we consider as granted. We thank you. Happy holidays to all of you!. Congratulations for your work!”.
There were present at the event, the Governor of the Children’s Hospital “The Agia Sofia” and “P&A. Kyriakou”, Mr. Manolis Papasavvas, the Deputy Minister of Health Mr. Marios Themistokleous, the Deputy Minister of Climate crisis and Civil Protection, Mr. Evangelos Tournas, the Association’s B.D. members, Mrs. Tzortzina Ellina, Alina Minetta, Nouli Manoli and Association’s members.
This specific Christmas event is taking place with the initiative of Fire Brigade and the “Flying” firemen are members of Hellenic Rescue Team of 1st E.M.A.K.
