Psychiatrist Stelios Kympouropoulos, a champion of life, paid a special visit to the “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA” Children’s Oncology Unit on Wednesday, 10 April 2019.
Mr. Kympouropoulos was greeted by the President of the “ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with cancer,” Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, the Director of “Agia Sofia” and P&A KYRIAKOU” Children’s Hospitals, Mr. Manolis Papasavvas, as well as members of the Board of Directors of “ELPIDA” and “VISION OF HOPE.”
Moved, Mrs. Vardinoyannis spoke of Mr. Kympouropoulos’ life battle, stressing that he should be taken as an example by all of us, since his personal journey confirms that human will can overcome any obstacle. “I have been following his life for many years, the values that he has, his battle to succeed. He has managed, by overcoming obstacles and making a superhuman effort, to be a great scientist today whom we are all proud of,” Mrs. Vardinoyannis stated.
Wishing to honour Mr. Kympouropoulos, Mrs. Vardinoyannis awarded him with an honorary plaque of the “ELPIDA” Association, and she awarded the “ELPIDA” Medal to Stelios’ mother, Mirella, who tirelessly supports him.
Mr. Kympouropoulos thanked Mrs. Vardinoyannis, stressing the importance of the work of “ELPIDA.” “I am very touched that I find myself here today, mainly because I observe that the work being carried out here is not just medical in nature. It concerns itself with the children’s psyche, and this is truly very important. Moreover, this is what I try to do through my science.”
Mrs Vardinoyannis has stood by Stelios for many years, supporting his every effort.
