It was successfully completed the last Saturday (1.3.2025), the Regional Tournament of Aegean Island and Crete, Mega Grand Slam Optimist & ILCA 4 and the award ceremony took place at the Yacht Club of Andros.
20 Yacht clubs with 180 athletes participated at this year tournament.
The Organizer was the Yacht Club of Andros with the participation of Greek Sailing Federation of the Region of South Aegean/Province of Andros, Municipality of Andros.
This year’s tournament had a social character as it was connected with the Association “ELPIDA- Association of Friends of Children with cancer”.
The opening ceremony of the Regional Sailing Tournament of Aegean Islands & Crete, Mega Grand Slam Optimist & ILCA 4took pave on Wednesday 26.2.2025 at the premises of the General Vocational Senior High School at Chora of Andros where it was presented the work of the Association “ELPIDA – Association of Friends of Children with cancer” from Panagiotis Kokkinos, a heeled ELPIDA child who has shared his experience with the athletes, sensitized them for the battle against the children cancer and giving a strong message of hope and life. The young sailors having as slogan “The children for the children” have competed for the children of “ELPIDA” who give their own battle for life.
The dancing department of the Women’s Club of Andros has given a traditional tone at the event while they were present the island’s Mayor, Th. Sosoudis, and the President of the Hellenic Sailing Federation, N. Anastasiou.
It should be noted that, the games were shown on live streaming from the channel of the H.S.F. at YouTube.
The game took place under difficult conditions due to strong rainfall but with fair wind for the athletes. On Friday, February 28th 2025, Optimist boats with the assistance of the participated yacht clubs coaches have formed at the bay of Andros Chora the number 57 honoring the 57 souls that were lost at the tragic accident of Tempi two years ago. Before the start of the first yacht racing of the day, observed a minute’s silence at the victims’ memory of this national tragedy. The award ceremony took place on Saturday night (1.3.2025) at the premises of A.Y.C. at Neimporio.
There were present: The President of the Hellenic Sailing Federation. Mrs. Niki Anastasiou, the Mayor of Andros, Mr. Theodosis Sousoudis, representatives of the security forces and others.
There were honored for their contribution for the tournament’s competition the following: The representative of the Association “ELPIDA – Association of Friends of Children with cancer”, Mrs Nouli Manoli, The President of the Hellenic Sailing Federation. Mrs. Niki Anastasiou, the Mayor of Andros, Mr. Theodosis Sousoudis, the representatives of Andros P.S., Coast Guard of Andros, EKAB, K.Y.A. and Mr. Dimitrios and Georgios Stefanou of the Golden Star Ferries Group and Mr. Stamatis Kouloumpis from Blue Star Ferries.
