Pavlos Geroulanos visited the Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA Children’s Oncology Unit on Tuesday, 5 February 2019.
Mr. Geroulanos was greeted by the President of the “ELPIDA Association of Friends of Children with cancer,” Mrs. Marianna V. Vardinoyannis, the Director of “Agia Sofia” and “P&A KYRIAKOU” Children’s Hospitals, Mr. Manolis Papasavvas, as well as members of the Board of Directors of “ELPIDA” and “VISION OF HOPE.”
Greeting Mr. Geroulanos, Mrs. Vardinoyannis thanked him for his touching initiative to visit the children of “ELPIDA”, stressing the significance of his support. “I am very familiar with your social sensitivity and your love for children. And, for me, the fact that throughout your entire career you have chosen to remain consistent with regard to the principles, the ethos, the education as well as the values that make you stand out under any circumstances is of great value,” Mrs. Vardinoyannis stated.
Wishing to honour Mr. Geroulanos for his support, Mrs. Vardinoyannis awarded him with an honorary plaque of the “ELPIDA” Association and, together, they subsequently placed a star bearing his name on the “ELPIDA” Wall of Stars.
Mr. Geroulanos thanked Mrs. Vardinoyannis for the great honour, stressing the importance of the work of “ELPIDA” in his speech. “Let me say a big thank you for the time you dedicated to informing me about the work of “ELPIDA.” I thank the members of the Board of Directors for the work you do. Mrs. Vardinoyannis, thank you for your kind words, they especially honour me. As a resident of Athens, I am familiar with various aspects of the work of “ELPIDA.” But I was not familiar with the great extent of the work you have done, and it would be good for those unfamiliar with it to learn about it in order to come to realise the capabilities that the organisation has.”
In the context of his visit, Mr. Geroulanos was briefed about the work of the “VISION OF HOPE” Association and voluntary bone marrow donation, while he himself became a volunteer bone marrow donor.
