Children's Oncology Unit “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis-ELPIDA”
In 2007, the “ELPIDA” Association laid the cornerstone for Greece's first paediatric oncology hospital and, 3 years later, in 2010, it delivered it to the Greek people, fully equipped both medically and in terms of furnishings, opening new horizons in the treatment of childhood cancer in our country.
The State, recognising the great contribution, named the Hospital “Marianna V. Vardinoyannis - ELPIDA” Children's Oncology Unit, incorporating it into the National Health System and exclusively assigning to the “ELPIDA” Association the psychosocial support of the child patients and their parents.
Today, thanks to the operation of the Children’s Oncology Unit, all sick Greek children can be treated in their own country, right beside their family, in accordance with the highest international scientific standards and the highest survival rates in the world.
In addition, the Unit often treats children from neighbouring countries that do not have the necessary medical infrastructure.
